Ms. Hamzik and I had the pleasure of taking our SAS team of seven 8th Grade astronaut “wannabes” to NASA Glenn Research Center yesterday for the 24th annual Young Astronaut Day. What a day it was! Our team was split into three to compete in STEM activities in the Commanders division. That division consisted of 7th-12th grade students. SAS shone brightly yesterday! Our students had an opportunity to meet and learn from Retired USAF Colonel NASA Astronaut Michael T. Good, a native of Broadview Heights. They then came home with a 2nd Place (by a fraction of seconds!), an Honorable Mention and … the 1st Place Team Overall! We’re so proud of them! Way to go, Callie, AnneMarie, Jason, Daniel, Zack, Nick and Ryan! They completed engineering tasks using their collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking skills (with no help from us!). Their mission included: Virtual Rocket Challenge (design and launch a lightweight rocket into orbit and have it land safely back to earth), Space Elevator (build an autonomous robot that can climb a simulated “space elevator), Gaining Traction on Mars (design a rover wheel that can navigate through a sandpit). Watch for pictures coming soon.
Thank you to Ms. Graber and Ms. Rego for their invitation, and to all of our 3rd Grade students and families who celebrated Mass together this morning. Our Singing Angels Children’s Choir led us with rousing singing and energy. What a fantastic praise and worship of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Today’s Open House was alive with the excited sounds of children and adults interested in Everything LAPS and SAS offers. Many thanks to Breanne Logue, Michelle Brousek and Kelley Marvin for their critical efforts, creativity and careful attention to detail that invited everyone in welcome to experience the joyful excellence and dynamic spirit we enjoy every day! Mrs. Horman added a special touch with her balloon animals, Student Ambassadors led tours and assisted with many tasks, and of course teachers, aides, staff and organizations such as PTU gave additional glimpses of the great teaching, learning and support that make Saint Ambrose Catholic School a unique and very special place. Thank you to all who made this fantastic day happen, and to all families – current and prospective – who allowed us to share it all with them!
To God be the glory!
