HSP Weekly Update
Mr. Dziedzicki- Assistant Principal, HSP Director, 8th Grade Homeroom, Mathematics
It is hard to believe we are halfway through the 3rd quarter! As always, please be sure to see your teachers with any questions.
Math classes…
Algebra I classes have starting studying quadratic equations, including multiple methods of solving. 6th grade advanced math will be completing inequalities with an assessment at the end of the week.
Here are some thoughts from the rest of our HSP Faculty…
Mrs. Hamzik- 8th Grade Homeroom, Science
Eighth grade will be dissecting frogs at the end of the week. They will spend the next few days reviewing frog anatomy and looking at virtual dissection labs.
Seventh grade will continue studying magnetism. They will make electromagnets and attempt to use them in making movable parts.
Sixth grade will continue balancing chemical equations and examining three types of chemical reactions. They will be studying acids, bases and pH next week.
Ms. Noga- 7th Grade Homeroom, Social Studies
It’s crazy to think that we’re halfway through the quarter!
The sixth-graders have wrapped up their study of India. Now, we move on to China! We will start by studying China’s geography and climate. The students will be making travel posters on an assigned Chinese region. We’ll also discuss the earliest Chinese civilizations and the conditions that led to their success.
The seventh-graders have been studying the effects of the Germanic invasions on Western Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. Last week, we took a look at Charlemagne and debated whether he was a hero or a villain, and the students had awesome insights! This week, we will begin to discuss the system of feudalism. It’s time to talk about lords, manors, knights, castles and more! After reviewing a bit of background information, the students will begin an engaging project.
Finally, the eighth-graders have been reviewing the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This week, the students will act out a fun play related to these topics. We will also finish up our unit on our nation’s most important document, and on Friday the students will have a “tiz” (smaller than a test but bigger than a quiz) on the Constitution.
Enjoy your week!
Mr. Mullen- 6th Grade Homeroom, Mathematics
This week, sixth graders will begin to learn about probability. They will study theoretical versus experimental probability, learn about graphing and participate in many activities were probability is a factor.
This week, seventh graders will begin unit of study on statistics. They will begin by learning about the different types of display graphs and what kind of data they’re good for displaying. Student should continue to work on their geometry vocabulary project that is due the end of the quarter.
This week, eighth graders will wrap up their unit on systems of equations by continuing to practice solving using elimination as well as moving into practicing writing and solving word problems that use systems of equations.
Ms. Kadlec- 6th Grade Homeroom, Religion
The 8th grade students are getting excited planning the mini retreat day for our younger students. The plan is moving along and is sure to be a great success. The outstanding saints who endured the Roman persecution have also been a large part of our learning and discussions, especially St. Perpetua and St. Felicity.
All of the hard work that the 7th grade students put into their Stations of the Cross presentation paid off in the best way possible. Teachers and students were amazed by the spiritual experience shared on Friday. The slide show presentation was beautifully done. Thank you 7th grade for your awesome spirit!
As the 6th graders retrace the history of our faith, they are learning about the trickery between twin brothers of Isaac, Jacob and Essau. They are also becoming familiar with the symbolic meaning of the sacrificial son and lamb. This is a great segue way to our yearly Seder Meal tradition. Invitations to each family went out last week. Please let me know if you have questions concerning this wonderful experience.
