THE HAROLD C. SHAW AWARD FOR  SCIENCE DAY EXCELLENCE!

The Harold C. Shaw Memorial Outstanding School Award is recognized as the highest possible school and team achievement at State Science Day. The award is based on a combination of high participation and project quality.

Saint Ambrose School was honored this past week with the prestigious and elusive Harold C. Shaw Award, recognized as the highest possible school and team achievement at State Science Day.  Saint Ambrose Catholic School had 5th and 7th Grade students participate in Science Day held at their school earlier in 2024, with students moving on to regional and the Ohio State Science Day competition, with students receiving the highest scores possible later in the spring.

“Earning the prestigious Harold C. Shaw School Award requires students to consistently put forth their best effort through every step of the process, from planning, research and critically thinking about experimental results to crafting their final report and presentation. The students of Saint Ambrose Catholic School in Brunswick stepped up, showed up, and did their best work, proving that age is not a limit to success!

“State Science Day is a program of The Ohio Academy of Science. For over 90 years, it has provided students and teachers an opportunity to highlight students who go above and beyond through scientific, project-based learning. Through participation in regional science days, students can qualify for State Science Day and an opportunity to compete for nearly $500,000 in scholarships and awards.”-ohiosci.org

For 76 years, State Science Day, a program of The Ohio Academy of Science, has been the pinnacle of academic achievement for students pursuing inquiry-based scientific research and engineering design. Drawing upon a base of nearly 5,000 students, a total of 636 students representing 169 schools from across Ohio competed for $500,000 in sponsored awards and scholarships. The State Science Day program culminated on May 11, 2024, when 248 students will be honored during a Celebration of Science, hosted by The Ohio State University.

State Science Day is a springboard for developing Ohio’s technical workforce”, said Michael E. Woytek, Executive Director of The Ohio Academy of Science. Woytek added, “a great number of these students will go on to obtain related STEM degrees and certifications. Additionally, State Science Day is creating a culture of innovation by inspiring the next generation of STEM talent needed to attract and retain critical industries and businesses in Ohio.
