The Angel Project

Saint Ambrose students were introduced to The Angel Project this week. This is a pilot study being launched within our computer science classes. It was developed by The Ohio STEM Impact Network to assist with drug prevention. The project was inspired by the successful work of one of our SAS 3rd graders. This student began looking for anyone that was left out each day at school and reached out to include them during lunch, recess, and group work in the classroom. This student made a difference and new friends along the way.

Students learn about “decoys”, “angels”, and “simulation”. They also learn how to scan the lunchroom, recess, and group work within their classrooms for anyone that might be left out. If someone is left out, then our “angels” learn how to approach that person and include them. “Decoys” are student volunteers willing to test other students by sitting/playing alone to see how long it takes other students to include them in an activity. Students provide data collection via Google Forms.

Students in grades K-8 are engaged in the simulation process to build awareness, take action to help others around them, and develop a long lasting habit of looking out for others.

The Angel Project is based on our technology standards, including Life in Christ, Life & Dignity of a Human Person, Critical Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration!

The Ohio STEM Impact Network

7th and 8th graders split into groups for internship opportunities with the OSIN. Students chose to be part of the following groups.

ENVIRONMENTAL:  NOAA Watershed Analysis using ArcGIS. These maps include churches, hospitals, businesses, residential, and commercial locations.

MEDICAL: Cancer research mapping using ArcGIS. Types of cancer layers were found and analyzed.

LAW ENFORCEMENT: Opioid overdoses and death data was obtained from the Medina Drug Task Force to be mapped using ArcGIS. These maps will help educate the community and will assist with passing levies.

CORPORATE APPS: Preschool app testing, management, and launch to The Littlest Angels Preschool.

QA SOFTWARE TESTING: Manual and automation UFT testing on sites.

Robotics

Students in grades K-6 worked with WeDo LEGO robotics this week!

Through a collaborative project with Mrs. Kautzman and Mrs. Gove, Kindergarten – 1st grade students focused on building robotic butterflies.

Mrs. Kubas and Mrs. Shreve also worked on a collaborative project for students in 2nd grade through 6th grade where they focused on building something to help animals due to climate change issues with robotics.
