The fifth-grade class learned about some Mayan myths and legends this week. We talked about the glyphs (or picture symbols) the Mayan people used to write their stories. As an extension activity, the students wrote their own legends using some Mayan glyphs. They even created an accordion-style book in the style of these native people. It was amazing to see their creative juices flowing! Some of the kids’ intriguing titles included “The King’s Magical Throne,” “The Sky Brothers,” and “The Man Who Wasn’t Afraid.” I can’t wait to read their stories!
