HSP Weekly Update

Mr. Dziedzicki- Assistant Principal, HSP Director, 8th Grade Homeroom, Mathematics

Happy Catholic Schools week! The school is alive with activity and excitement! We would like to invite you to mass on Wednesday at 10:00 AM where Bishop Perez will be presiding. What a fantastic opportunity for our students to come to he table of the Lord with the leader of our diocese!

In my math classes the Algebra I students are preparing to take their mid term exam and are beginning to look into quadratic functions and equations. The sixth grade advanced students will be wrapping up their study of volume and surface area.

Here are some thoughts from the rest of our HSP Faculty…

Mrs. Hamzik- 8th Grade Homeroom, Science

This week in science…

Friday the eighth grade classes had an opportunity to learn about organ donation.  A living donor (Mrs. Dziedzicki) and the recipient of her kidney (family friend Carmelina) spoke with the students about kidney disease and organ transplants.  It was an amazing opportunity.

Seventh grade presented their science fair projects on Tuesday evening. Best of luck to the nine students who advanced to the North East Ohio Science and Engineering Fair!

Sixth grade is continuing their study of chemistry and will be working with viscosity.  They will look at the role temperature will have on three different liquids.

Mrs. Noga- 7th Grade Homeroom, Social Studies

Happy Catholic Schools Week! I feel so blessed to teach at St. Ambrose and be able to work with such amazing students!

In sixth-grade, the students are working on Hinduism picture dictionaries. They will finish those up this week and also start learning about Buddhism. They will compare and contrast the two fascinating religions.

Last week, the seventh-graders made creative posters about gladiator events at the Colosseum, and they started learning about Christianity’s effect on the Roman Empire. This week we’ll continue to talk about Christianity as well as the fall of the Roman Empire.  Expect a test in the next couple of weeks (more info to come later).

Finally, in eighth grade, the students have been creating either a song, poster or newspaper article celebrating the Americans’ victory in the Revolutionary War. After that, we’ll start talking about how America formed its new nation and Constitution. Expect a test in the next couple of weeks (more info to come later).

Mr. LaGuardia- 7th Grade Homeroom, English/Language Arts

Hello parents!

We had such a good week last week. Each grade continued to read their class novels, began writing assignments, received their vocabulary quizzes back, finished Ch. 9 in their grammar books, took a ch. 9 quiz, decorated the door for Catholic Schools Week, wrote a paragraph describing their Catholic school experience thus far, deepened their knowledge of REACH and Growth Mindset AND EVEN MORE. I am really looking forward to the week coming up.

Mr. Mullen- 6th Grade Homeroom, Mathematics

Sixth graders this week will be taking a short quiz on rates and unit rates. They will then review fractions to decimals to percents conversions as a set up to using percents to calculate. Students will learn how to quickly and easily use 10%  to find any other percentages of a number.

Seventh graders will continue to review and move forward with geometry concepts and skills. This week we will focus on polygons and their angles. They should be working on their projects at home each week.

Eighth graders will be in groups learning about the three methods to solving systems of equations.

Ms. Kadlec- 6th Grade Homeroom, Religion

What a week it has been in HSP! Preparing for Catholic Schools Week always creates a great sense of community.  I am especially proud of the creativity and hard work the sixth graders put into decorating their classroom doors in a joint grade level manner.  Hopefully you had the chance to check it out at Open House on Sunday.

After a brainstorming session with both 6th grade homerooms together, the students decided to focus this task on ideas that are unique to their class this school year. Using the theme of Creation and the Old Testament covenants, which are central themes in the Religion curriculum this year, one door took on a daytime theme with the message “Reach for the Heavens” made to look like clouds. Elements of creation and God’s covenant were created with butterflies, animals and a rainbow on the ceiling.  The other door was made to look like night, including the message “Reach for  the Stars” out of stars. The students added a 3-D campfire and a beautiful statue of Mary in remembrance of their evening experience at Camp Damascus last October.  An evening sky full a sparkling stars was also created on the hallway ceiling.  This endeavor was a true testament of their creativity, talent and teamwork!

We are all looking forward to the wonderful events of this special week.
