HSP Weekly Update

Mr. Dziedzicki- Assistant Principal, HSP Director, 8th Grade Homeroom, Mathematics

It seems unbelievable that we have only had one day of school in the past three weeks. The students should be well rested and ready to tackle all of the challenges that the second semester has to offer.  In the weeks leading up to Christmas we unveiled Habits of Mind to our students. As a reminder, in the coming months we will continue to focus on our school acronym: REACH

Saint Ambrose students are…

R- Resilient– Stick to it! Persevering in task through to completion; remaining focused. Looking for ways to reach your goal when stuck. Not giving up.

E- Empowered– Take your time! Thinking before acting; remaining calm, thoughtful and deliberative.

A- Accurate– Check it again! Always doing your best. Setting high standards. Checking and finding ways to improve constantly.

C- Creative– Try a different way! Generating new and novel ideas, fluency, originality.

H- Harmonious– Work together! Being able to work in and learn from others in reciprocal situations. Understand others! Devoting mental energy to another person’s thoughts and ideas. Make an effort to perceive another’s point of view and emotions.

Math classes…

Algebra I classes will continue studying factoring of trinomials. 6th grade advanced math will continue looking at similar figures along with exploring area, volume, and surface area  of multi-dimensional figures.

Here are some thoughts from the rest of the HSP faculty…

Mrs. Hamzik- 8th Grade Homeroom, Science

Sixth grade is studying chemistry.  They have learned 36 elements and  will begin examining chemical and physical changes.

Seventh grade is currently working on science fair projects. The school science fair is Tuesday, January 23, and the top projects will advance to The North East Ohio Science and Engineering Fair in March.

After five months of preparation the eighth grade Future City team is ready for the competition this weekend.

We will present the city to our parents Tuesday, January 9, at 6:30.

Good Luck Angels.

Mrs. Noga- 7th Grade Homeroom, Social Studies

Welcome to 2018! I like even numbers better, so I know this is going to be an awesome year! :-)

In sixth grade, we finished up our Egypt unit before break and are now moving on to India. We’ll discuss the geography, culture, people and history of this ancient civilization, as well as the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism.

The seventh-graders are finishing building their 3-D model of Ancient Rome. Some pictures are attached, but more will come later when the project is officially completed! The students have been so creative throughout this process, and their ingenuity has been inspiring. After the students complete the model, they will also write a short summary of their research and building process. This project grade WILL count for second quarter, so grades should be updated over the weekend. Next on the agenda is talking about the Roman Empire, Julius Caesar and more.

Finally, the eighth-graders are beginning to study the causes of the American Revolution by conducting a “history lab” investigation. They will be completing various evidence-based tasks over the next week or two, culminating with an opinion piece over which event had the biggest impact on the revolution.

On a side note, the all-school spelling bee will be held this Thursday evening. Congratulations and good luck to all of our super spellers in grades 2-8!

I’m excited to get back into the swing of school. Stay warm, everyone!

Mr. LaGuardia- 7th Grade Homeroom, English/Language Arts

Well, considering we have had one day of school in the past three weeks, there is not much to report as far as the coming and goings of HSP ELA. I will, therefore, direct you to an email which I sent out on 1/8/2018 outlining the future for quarter three and the wrap up of quarter two. One important addendum to this email is that the quarter no longer ends on 1/10/2018, but on 1/12/2018 (Friday). This is super important for anyone who has fallen behind on AR.

Mr. Mullen- 6th Grade Homeroom, Mathematics

Six grade mathematicians will continue to review negative number operations as well as move forward with ratios, rates and proportions. There will be a short quiz over ratios and rates on Thursday. There will be a short extra credit assignment available, due Friday.

Seventh graders will review solving equations and inequalities and will have a chapter test on Thursday.

Eighth graders will have one day to finish off their pain glass window linear functions projects. Then they will take a short summative worksheet home on Wednesday due in class on Thursday.
