Dear Friends of Saint Ambrose School,

Today’s Catholic Teacher magazine awarded Saint Ambrose School the 2017 Innovations in Catholic Education award for our “Homeless Project.”  From the Diocese of Cleveland website, “St. Ambrose was recognized in the category of promoting Catholic identity for its innovative outreach program to the homeless. Students are developing a homeless mission operations app that will help approximately 200 homeless people who are fed through homeless missions weekly.  The app is used by homeless mission operators who drive the streets to find homeless who are in need of food and shelter. The app involves students gathering data for locations of homeless shelters, food banks and safe havens.” In addition, students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade worked in Makerspace groups to design, test and make prototypes for blankets that will be delivered to the homeless.

Christopher Knight, Secretary for Catechetical Formation and Education/Superintendent for the Diocese of Cleveland, said only one school nationally receives the award in each category. “What a great accomplishment and witness … to be chosen as a national award winner,” Knight said.

Truly, much more important than the award is the way our students and staff are working to build up the Body of Christ every day here at SAS.
