Saint Ambrose Catholic School Students REACH with Habits of Mind!

Learning is not all about the grades.

In an effort to enrich our 21st Century school culture and align with our school STEM designation as an identified best practice, Saint Ambrose Catholic School is proud to announce our school “Habits”.  A “Habit of Mind” means having a disposition toward behaving intelligently when confronted with problems in our day to day lives. When people experience choices, are confused by dilemmas, or come face to face with uncertainties–our most effective actions require drawing forth certain patterns of intellectual behavior. These behaviors are rooted in two fundamental ideas:

Growth Mindset – Reflects the belief that a person’s most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work.

Habits of Mind- The dispositions that are skillfully and mindfully employed by characteristically successful people when confronted with problems the solutions to which are not immediately apparent.

Our goal of employing, Habits of Mind” is to help our 21st Century students behave more intelligently. If students are capable of behaving more intelligently, they are more likely to be successful.

At Saint Ambrose School, we are …

R- Resilient- Stick to it! Persevering in a task through to completion; remaining focused. Looking for ways to reach your goal when stuck. Not giving up.

E- Empowered – Take your time! Thinking before acting; remaining calm, thoughtful and deliberative.

A- Accurate- Check it again! Always doing your best. Setting high standards. Checking and finding ways to improve constantly.

C- Creative – Try a different way! Generating new and novel ideas, fluency and originality.

H- Harmonious – Work together and understand others! Being able to work with and learn from others in reciprocal situations. Devoting mental energy to another person’s thoughts and ideas. Make an effort to perceive another’s point of view and emotions.

Watch for more to come!
