Visual Art Update for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday December 3rd, 5th & 7th

Advent is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas (or sometimes from the 1st December to Christmas Day!). Advent means ‘Coming’ in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas.

Preschool: Students created artwork that communicated the meaning of “Advent”.

Kindergarten: Students created artwork that communicated the meaning of “Advent”. They recognized and pointed out the similarities and differences between artistic styles.

Second: Students created artwork that communicated the meaning of “Advent”. They created artwork based on imagination and observation of familiar objects and scenes. They demonstrated flexibility in their creative processes and use of art materials.

Third: Each student created a patterned elf sock. We discussed a career as a fashion designer.

Fourth: Students in Mrs. Thompson’s class designed a “Ugly Christmas Sweater. We discussed a career as a fashion designer. Mrs. Parente’s class attended the Saint Ambrose Patron Saint presentation.

Fifth: Each student finished drawing a church in perspective. They showed increasing attention to the nuances of elements and principles of design while creating a design. We discussed careers as architect .

Sixth: Students presented a famous artist. They explained what makes an object a work of art using a range of criteria. They described content, meaning and design in various works of art using accurate, descriptive language and art-specific vocabulary.

Seventh: Students presented a famous artist. They explored and discussed how aspects of culture influence ritual and social artwork.
