Visual Art Weekly Update for

Wednesday, & Friday (GOOD FRIDAY *No classes)  

April 10 and 12

 

Preschool: Students learned about how things in art may or may not be equal. They create a symmetrical butterfly using paints for the design. They reduced objects into basic shapes and lines in relation to the whole image. They recognized and pointed out the similarities and differences between artistic styles.

 

Kindergarten: Each student had the opportunity to visit the Distant Learning Lab. They utilized the tablets with a Pottery App that allowed them to create a three dimensional piece of artwork. Students illustrated pottery using shapes and colors. They learned to position and size those objects while utilizing technology as an art medium. Afterwards, they showed confidence and pride in their artistic accomplishments.

 

First: Students created a symmetrical butterfly using paint. They learned about “Resurrection” in correlation with Jesus on Easter.  They created artwork based on imagination and observation of familiar objects and scenes.

Third: Students created a “Cursive Bug” while writing their name in cursive and then making it symmetrical and adding details to the bug’s body. They compared and contrasted their opinions of their artwork, They demonstrated skill and expression in the use of art techniques and processes.  

 

Fourth: Students finished creating a comic strip. They brainstormed ideas and then applied their critical thinking skills to their artwork. They looked at the evolution of comic strips using the familiar Peanuts comic strips and other comic strips.
They explored comic strips from the perspective of story (setting, character, plot) and evaluated comic strips by looking at words, pictures, and how they work together.

Fifth: No Class (Good Friday)

 

Sixth:  Students learned how to research and present a famous artist using Google Presentation. They learned to analyse and describe works of art. Some of the questions included:

What is his or her most significant contribution to art?

How is his or her culture reflect their artwork?

How did his or her personal life experiences affect their artwork?
