Preschool: Welcome!!! We worked on introductions and learned about “What is Art”.  Students utilized the Smartboard to learn the basics of art.

 

Kindergarten: Students learned about “Church”. They created a collage of a church using shapes. They engaged in the artmaking process. They explored various forms of symbolic images, and symbols.

 

First: Each student created a self portrait . They were able to define the term “Self-portrait” verse “Portrait”.

They identified and analyzed the key components of a portrait and related the visual elements.

 

Second:Each student finished their  self portrait . They were able to define the term “Self-portrait” verse “Portrait”.

They identified and analyzed the key components of a portrait and related the visual elements.

 

Third: Each student finished their  self portrait . They were able to define the term “Self-portrait” verse “Portrait”.

They identified and analyzed the key components of a portrait and related the visual elements.

 

Fourth, Fifth and Sixth grade students started drawing a self-portrait. They imagined themselves as an animal and were asked to think about the characteristics they share. For example; a student suggested a wolf because this animal is loyal. Next week they will write an artist statement suggesting why they choose that specific animal.

HSP learned about proportion while creating a self-portrait.

After completing this lesson, students will be better able to: • Define the term “self-portrait” • Identify and analyze key components of a portrait and relate visual elements to relevant context and significance • Develop creative symbols while practicing fine arts skills.
