Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday ! It was so nice to see the children’s smiling faces again this morning! :) I am looking forward to many more exciting activities in first grade! :)
I. There will not be any homework assigned this week as I would like to give the children a little time to readjust back to school after their long winter break.
II. If your child participated in the Pizza Hut Book-It! reading program for the month of December, please return your child’s reading calendar to school tomorrow.
**Please be sure to sign and date the calendar accordingly. In addition, please be sure your child wrote his or her name at the top of the calendar.
All students who read for a minimum of fifteen minutes a day for five days a week will receive a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. :)
III. The January Book-It calendars were sent home with the children today.
IV. Mark your calendar! The first grade Sunday Celebration will be held on January 22nd, the chidren will be participating in a presentation at the end of the 9:00 a.m. Mass.
We ask that all students wear their uniform to Mass on that day to show that we are proud students of St. Ambrose School!
In addition to participaing in the Mass, we are in need of families to be greeters at the church doors and distribute books. If you are interested and available, please send me a note or Dojo message.
IV. Next week, the students will begin participating in the Accelerated Reading program in which the students will be selecting books within their ZPD (zone of proximal development) range. This is the reading range is obtained through the STAR assessments and provides the reading level that would be the most beneficial to the students and provide the maximum growth. After selecting a reading book within their personal range from the library, the students will be given a comprehension quiz on the computer based on the book that he or she read. Points are rewarded for the number of answers that are correct. Each child will be given a goal consisting of the number of points he or she needs to earn within the time range given. **Information will be sent home soon! **
