It is only Wednesday and I can’t believe all of the exciting things that have happened in our classroom this week!
On Monday, the children had a visit from Johnny Appleseed. The students also participated in their first STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Math) project! The children were given a container filled with a variety of materials. The children were placed into groups. The groups were instructed to build a carrier or plate to carry an apple to help Johnny Appleseed. The children came up with some very creative ideas. The children then took an apple and tested their creations. I am very excited to tell you that all of the creations worked! :) Way to go First Grade!!!
Lessons in music, coding and art also focused upon Johnny Appleseed.
On Tuesday, the children worked with the sixth grade students to use a microscope to examine slides containing a variety of materials. The students drew what they saw through the microscope. We also compared the microscope to a magnifying glass.
Today, the children were given the opportunity to meet with Fr. Bob in the church and learn about Holy objects inside the church. The children were very excited to learn about the many things they see while at Mass. The children especially liked learning about the images on the stained glass windows.
Friday is Special Person’s Day! We do have gym in the afternoon; however, please have your child wear his or her uniform to school and bring his or her gym shoes. The students will be given the opportunity to change into their shoes before gym class.
Photos from our Johnny Appleseed visit, our STREAM project and microscope lesson will be sent to you on Class Dojo soon!
